Lubricant Additive industry in China started relatively late. In the middle of 1950s, a set of small industrial plant of alkyl naphthalene Pour Point Depressant was built, and the systematic development and research began in the late 1950s. From 1963 to 1965, the industrial units of petroleum sulfonate salt detergent and Zinc Dialkyl Dithiophosphate Corrosion Inhibitor Zddp were built one after another in China, so that the main additives used in internal combustion engine oil began to be based in China in the 1970s. Two detergent, thiophosphate polyisobutene barium salt and alkyl salicylate, poly alpha olefin Pour Point Depressant, polyisobutylene and polymethacrylate Viscosity Index Improver , Phenolic Antioxidant, etc., were produced respectively. In addition, a number of Rust Preventative Anti-rust Additive, such as barium petroleum sulfonate, barium diazenesulfonic acid salt, dodecenyl succinic acid, etc. have also been produced and commercialized in this period. With the application of above additives, the production capacity of Lubricant Additive in China has a certain scale, which basically meets the needs of domestic oil products at that time.
In the 1980s, more manpower was organized in China to develop new varieties of additives. In order to speed up the expansion of additive production capacity and learn from foreign additive production technology, especially the reaction equipment and monitoring technology, the production technology of synthetic TBN Booster Calcium Sulfonate and Ashless Dispersant was also introduced during this period. By the end of 1980s, the production capacity of lubricating oil additives in China has been quite large. The new varieties developed and put into production are Antiwear Ep Additive Sulfurized Isobutylene, thiophosphorus nitrogen Extreme Pressure Antiwear Additive , Metal Deactivating Additive, Ocp Polymer Ethylene Propylene Copolymer Viscosity Index Modifier, a series of anti-oxygen and anticorrosive agents, sulfide esters and phosphorus-containing Oil Additive , non-silicon Antifoam Additive and anti-emulsifiers.
Compared with the 1960s, the composition of domestic Lubricant Additive has also changed greatly. The general composition is as follows: Detergent 46.7%, Dispersant 15.0%, antioxidant (including Corrosion Inhibitor ZDDP ) 11.5%, Viscosity Index Improver 13.5%, Pour Point Depressant 7.0%, other additives ( Antiwear EP Additive , Anti-corrosion Additive, Rust Preventative Anti-Rust Additive, etc.). There are nearly 160 varieties of additives in 10 categories. For the Additive Package , most of the Engine Oil Additive and Industrial Oil Additive can be produced by China local plants, but there is still some technical threshold in the line of ATF Additive , brake oil additive, tractor additive, etc.
At present, the main additive varieties are the same as foreign countries, but there is still a certain gap in quality though the gap is narrowing. Especially after China entered into WTO, more foreign additive companies entered into China market, and the competition is more and more intense. Of course, competition and opportunity coexist, on the one hand, we can learn foreign advanced technology and narrow the gap with foreign countries; at the same time, we should combine China national conditions and develop our own additive industry. In the future, on the basis of the basic stereotyping of each type of additive compounds, the chemical structure of the compounds will be adjusted to serialize all kinds of additives. At the same time, we should speed up the study of the compound effect of additives and produce more and better Additive Package according to the performance requirements of oil products.
