What is the difference between mineral type chain oil and synthetic high-temperature chain oil

April 06, 2023

Some manufacturers in the market use low-cost mineral oil chain oil in high-temperature chain equipment to save costs. Do you think using mineral oil based chain oil is more cost-effective than synthetic chain oil? Is the situation really like this? Today I will calculate an economic account for you.

Mineral type chain oil

Mineral oil type chain oil is generally used at temperatures below 150 degrees Celsius, and when used on high-temperature chains, it is prone to carbon formation and coking, forming a large amount of sludge and gum. The cleaning cycle is about one month, resulting in a short service life of the chain. Volatilization is rapid and consumes a lot of fuel above 150 degrees Celsius, and continuous refueling is necessary. Mineral oil based high-temperature chain oil forms pollution in terms of evaporation loss and emissions.

Synthetic high-temperature chain oil

Synthetic ester chain oil is used at temperatures ranging from 220 to 260 degrees Celsius. Due to its excellent thermal oxidation stability and biodegradability, it has low evaporation loss and less coking. It has certain solubility in resins and paint films. Excellent lubrication performance can further reduce fuel consumption, extend the chain cleaning cycle by more than 1 year, improve production efficiency, and extend the chain life. Less volatilization, less oil consumption, reduced emissions, and reduced environmental pollution.

Mineral chain oil can easily form oil sludge at high temperatures, while synthetic high-temperature chain oil has less coking!

Where has the volatile chain oil gone? Not yet back in the environment, so reducing usage means reducing emissions. Under high operating temperatures, if the evaporation loss of lubricating oil is high, a large amount of lubricating oil will evaporate into the air and be discharged, leading to intensified environmental pollution. Under the same conditions, the evaporation loss of synthetic chain oil is very low, only 1/3 of mineral oil, so it evaporates less, which is very helpful for environmental protection.

Excellent high-temperature performance, meeting the requirements of energy conservation and environmental protection, synthetic ester type high-temperature chain oil has a very low tendency to accumulate carbon and coke at high temperatures and maintains liquid film lubrication. The lubricating oil consumption is low, with minimal smoke and no harmful gases generated; It is the main development direction of high-temperature chain equipment.
