What is anhydrous calcium base grease? What is the difference with calcium base grease?

December 27, 2022

Anhydrous calcium base grease is made from low viscosity and low freezing point mineral oil thickened by 12 hydroxy calcium stearate, and added with antioxidant and antirust agent. Anhydrous calcium base grease is applicable to the lubrication of friction parts such as wheel hub bearings, chassis, water pump bearings, motor and fan bearings in severe cold regions. The use temperature range of general anhydrous calcium base grease for automobiles in severe cold areas is - 50 ℃ - 110 ℃.

anhydrous calcium base grease

Product performance
(1) The use temperature of anhydrous calcium base grease is more than 30 ℃ higher than that of ordinary calcium base grease.
(2) It has excellent mechanical stability, water resistance and good colloidal stability.
(3) The moisture absorption resistance and heat hardening resistance of anhydrous calcium base grease are better than those of composite calcium base grease.

What is the difference between anhydrous calcium base grease and calcium base grease?
The colloidal structure of calcium base grease can only be maintained if it contains fibril glue solvent (water or glycerin, etc.) in its molecular structure. When the ambient temperature of the application exceeds 90 ℃, the water in the structure will volatilize, which will eventually lead to the destruction of the grease structure and loss of the role of the grease. However, there is no water in the anhydrous calcium base grease as the glue solvent, and the structure of the grease will not be damaged when it is used above 90 ℃, so the use temperature is increased, and the dropping point of the grease is greater than 140 ℃.

In addition to higher drop point than calcium base grease, anhydrous calcium base grease also has excellent mechanical stability and good water resistance. Anhydrous calcium base grease can be used for the lubrication of automobile wheel bearings in cold regions. It can still work normally at low temperatures from - 16 ℃ to - 35 ℃, and the service life of one-time lubrication can reach 3.5 × 104km, 3~4 times longer than calcium base grease.
