What is abrasive, how to distinguish between oil-based abrasive and water-based abrasive?

Car paint grinding and polishing is the essence of car beauty, is the high-end project of car beauty, it can be said that master the car paint grinding and polishing is almost equal to master the soul of car beauty. For the indispensable abrasive in the polishing process, the final effect plays an extremely important role.

What is abrasive?

Abrasive refers to a mixture made of abrasive, dispersant (also known as abrasive liquid) and auxiliary materials, and is also traditionally listed as a class of abrasive tools. The abrasive is used for grinding and polishing, and the abrasive particles are free when used. Due to the different composition and proportion of the dispersant and auxiliary materials, the abrasive has liquid, paste and so on.

What is oil-based, water-based abrasive?

Water-based or oil-based abrasives are determined by the amount of oil in the composition. In fact, whether it is water-based abrasive or oil-based abrasive, it contains oil, but the water solubility of less oil is better, also known as water-based abrasive; More oil according to the oil standard is divided into semi-water abrasive or oil abrasive.

At present, many oil-based abrasives on the market are known as water-based abrasives, but often their oil content exceeds the standard of water-based abrasives, and abrasives with oil content of 5-15% are usually called water-based abrasives in the world.

1. Oil-based abrasive

Its particle composition is mainly nitrogen oxides, etc., the principle is in the grinding process through the explosive splitting of particles, by large particles split into small particles, small particles and then remove the scratches left by large particles, through multiple fission grinding, so as to achieve the effect of grinding and polishing.

2. Water-based abrasive

Its composition is mainly composed of cerium ore, glass beads, quartz sand and other extremely fine, extremely hard polygonal grinding particles (characteristics: fine, hard, pure), the particles are several times smaller than the oil-based grinding agent (R1:13um,R2; 4um,R3:1.5um), high hardness (non-fission), high purity, with super strong, fast scratch ability.

What are the characteristics of water-based abrasive and oil-based abrasive in use?

Because the oil content ratio is significant, it is very easy to cover the scratch during construction, so that the construction personnel mistakenly think that the scratch has been processed, but in fact, the scratch still exists, which is what we call the "false grinding" phenomenon. Therefore, when using oil-based abrasive, the construction personnel need to judge whether the scratches are completely removed during the polishing process by experience, to avoid affecting the construction quality because of the characteristics of the oil-based abrasive itself. In addition, the oily abrasive in the construction of large dust, in the later finish will extend the construction time.

The advantages of oil-based abrasive are also obvious, because of the high oil content, after polishing, the paint will be very bright and give a good visual effect.

Compared with oil-based abrasive, the advantage of water-based abrasive is that there is basically no "false abrasive" phenomenon when dealing with scratches, which greatly improves the accuracy of construction judgment. When the construction personnel use water-based abrasive, if the scratch is not visible when checking the paint, it is proof that the scratch has been removed. And water-based abrasive due to small particles, construction dust is not large, speed up the subsequent light collection time, while the human respiratory tract stimulation is small.

So how do you tell the two abrasives apart?

1, Dip a little abrasive with your fingers, rub with two fingers hard, if the grinding particle powder powder after rubbing, very dry and not greasy, is water-based. If it is still greasy after a while, it is oily. (This method is not very accurate)

②, after 2000 sandpaper, grinding, polishing and reduction with degreasing agent to clean the paint. The original scratch comes out, which is oily, whereas it is water-based. (This one is accurate.)

When doing beauty projects, how to choose two kinds of abrasives?

Oily and water-based abrasives are the most commonly used abrasives on the market, and according to the characteristics of the two abrasives, each store can choose according to its actual needs and the use of technicians. However, according to the price of the two abrasives and product performance, oil-based abrasives are used for projects such as sheet metal or polishing and waxing, and water-based abrasives are used for high-end beauty projects such as crystal plating.
